Upcoming Films & Television

The Bachelor

ABC

When considering reality shows, many know the name “The Bachelor.” It’s a household name and a staple of television passed through generations.  The Bachelor season 29 will premiere on Monday, January 27, featuring Grant Ellis as the lead. Ellis is a 31-year-old day trader in New Jersey, known for his charm, but what makes this new lead special is that he competed on Jenn Tran’s season of The Bachelorette. With Ellis’s charm and positivity, this season promises heartfelt connections and drama to which we all are drawn. Tune in to the new season this January, and don’t forget the popcorn.

Z-Suite

TUBI

This upcoming television is a must for those interested in business, as it hilariously examines the challenges of advertising in the modern workplace. The Z-Suite is a comedy series premiering on Thursday, February 6th, starring Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls and Nico Santos from Superstore. This eight-episode series is set in a New York ad agency, following Monica Marks (Graham) and her executive Doug Garcia (Santos), who were ousted after a corporate failure. Gen Z employees soon replace them, but Monica and Doug plot a comeback, setting a showdown to see which team reigns supreme. The battle between the C-suite and Gen Z (Z-Suite) employees is a beautiful look into the social commentary of generation habits, but with its humor and wittiness, this series is shaping up to be a must-watch.

The Monkey

THEATERS

This one is for the Stephan King horror fans out there. “The Monkey”, written and directed by Osgood Perkins, is set to hit theaters on February 21. The story revolves around twin brothers Hal and Bill, who come upon their father’s vintage toy monkey in the attic. This toy is unlike any other toy and will unleash a string of death whenever its cymbals clash. The brothers soon part ways to attempt to rid themselves of the curse, but the terror resurfaces years later, forcing them to reunite and face whatever comes their way with its gripping premise and the combined genius of King. The Monkey is poised to be a standout horror release of 2025, and you don’t want to miss it.

Welcome to Derry

HBO MAX

A prequel series to “IT” is set to delve into the eerie origins of Pennywise the Clown and the events that lead up to Chapter 1.  Although little is known about the premise, we know that the plot will take place in the 1960s and find out why IT tormented the town and its inhabitants. The origins are here to provide clarity to the series that we all have adorned for years. Bill Skarsgard will reprise his iconic role as Pennywise, though the actor stated that the show is “pretty hardcore, man. It’s not the G-rated Pennywise.” Cheers to this new rendition of “IT”.

How to Train Your Dragon

THEATERS

Those fans of the animated “How to Train Your Dragon” will be shocked to discover that a live-action remake is coming out. The movie is scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on June 13th, 2025. It is a must-watch for those who grew up watching the film. While there isn’t much out for the movie now, the general understanding is that it will follow the original plotline of the first movie. This follows Hiccup, a young Viking who wants to join his town's fight against the dragons. Hiccup soon ventures out to battle and takes down a Night Fury, whom he dubs toothless; these two begin a friendship that would open up both worlds.  “How to Train Your Dragon” is a classic for those growing up in the 2000s, and I am excited for a new way to share the story.
